GAYLORD, LAWLESS posted by Janet K on Thursday, April 5, 2001

I am looking for information on a George Lawless and Minnie Gaylord who married in 1884 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and had a son Stanley G. Lawless in about 1886. By the time of the 1900 Census, Stanley is living with the Fred Saywell family, where he is still living in 1910. It appears that his mother, Minnie, and possibly his father George, had died between 1886 and 1900. I found an obit for a Stanley "Hank" Lawless of Garretsville who died in March of 1994, who may have been a son of my Stanley G. Lawless. This obituary said that he had a son in Ravenna and a daughter in Nelson. I have been unable to find any trace of this Minnie Gaylord Lawless or any of her descendants and would welcome any help. Perhaps they ended up here in Portage County. I would be glad to share information on Minnie's ancestors. Thank you for any help that you may be able to provide!

CARLEY, LORD posted by Mary Lindbo on Friday, April 6, 2001

I'd like to learn more about the family of my fourth great-grandparents, Ichabod and Rebecca (Carley) LORD who I believe lived in Shalersville, Portage County from sometime before 1826 until at 1852. Rebecca died July 18, 1826 and Ichabod died on May 16, 1852 - both are buried in Hillside Cemetery, Shalersville. I think they had nine children, Amarilla, Orasha, Leantha, Sarah, Philenea, Ichabod, Jr., Reuben, Elmira and David (all born in Brookfield, Orange County, Vermont between 1786 and 1808. Many of them lived in Portage County or the surrounding counties. I would like to hear from anyone with a connection to the Lord family or with any knowledge of them.

BARRINGER, BROWN, COMPTON, FREDERICKS posted by Ruby Coleman on Wednesday, April 11, 2001

I am seeking information on Ambrose Barringer who died probably at Ravenna, Portage Co., OH in April of 1980. He was the son of Effie Brown and A. Walter Barringer, born in Iowa. Effie and Walter were divorced and she married second in 1902 in Guthrie Co., IA to T.J. Fredericks. She married third before 1913 to H.E. Compton. It is possible that she went to Ohio also. Need information also on Ambrose Barringer's descendants.

DILLINGHAM posted by Dave Dillingham Wiltshire on Saturday, April 14, 2001

I am a UK researcher into the surname Dillingham and think this is quite a tough one. I have a John and Cla(o)rida Dillingham who appear in the 1840 to 1870 census returns for Edinburg, Portage Co. John came from New York State but I cannot trace his origins. I think that he might have married in Ohio, between 1830 (when he was still in New York State) and 1840, possible around 1833. The only clue I have to his origins is a statement by a Charles F. Dillingham who "stopped a few years in the State of Ohio" and whose son Charles H. Dillingham was born somewhere in in Ohio 2/22/1834. Charles had a brother called John who is otherwise unaccounted for, so I am trying to establish a link between Charles Dillingham and Edinburg / Portage Co. Ohio or even to find some information about John Dillingham in Edinburg in what must have been its early history. I said it was tough, but you just never know! :-)

BUTLER, DAY, WITTER posted by Ruth Archibald on Sunday, April 22, 2001

Looking for information and/or descendents of the brothers and sisters of my great, great, grandmother, Lophemia Witter. Her brothers Robert Berry Witter, Charles E. Witter and sisters, Mary Ann Witter Day, and Isabella Witter Butler(husband William Butler), all moved to Rootstown and Ravenna, Portage County, as early as 1840. Their mother, Margaret Keys Witter also moved to Rootstown following the death of her husband, Ezra, in Nova Scotia. Robert ran a livery and feed stable in Ravenna and died between 1885 and 1893. Charles was a teller at the First National Bank in Ravenna and died in 1885. There may also have been another brother, Ezra H. Witter. Any information appreciated! Ruth
